While Sam Mendes’ Empire of Light looks to be another adult oriented bomb pulling in under $200,000 on 110 screens. The film has grossed more than $401 million domestically since its Nov. 11 opening, with an additional $339 million from international ticket sales. The Hurt Locker — the lowest-grossing best picture winner in modern times with a domestic cume of just $17 million — beat Cameron’s Avatar in a historic upset in March 2010.
